If you are reading this article and you are a returning visitor to our website you will no doubt have noticed that our news section looks different. As an integral part of the Big Red Platform, the news section has had regular updates over the years - both in terms of design and functionality. However, we felt the time was right for a fresh approach. By keeping up to date with the latest web design trends and we identified that some key improvements were there to be made.
The main focus of this update was responsiveness as people are using mobile devices more and more to surf the web. Taking this into account for our redesign, we put extra focus on optimising for mobile whilst keeping things looking great on the big screen.
Not only does it look more engaging, we focused in on how it works too. Making sure to maximise SEO integration so that articles can be found more easily online. Each article contains structured data and open graph tags within the published code. People don’t actually see anything onscreen, but behind the scenes, this code ensures that search engine indexing is accurate and that articles from websites on the Big Red Platform present really well when shared on Social media platforms.
We have added the personal touch too by highlighting individual authors using images, bios and listing pages. This lets people get to know our team a little more and what our roles are within the business.
One of our aims it to always provide relevant content to our readers. Taking this into consideration we have added automated ‘Related Articles’ so that readers can continue reading within the topic they are already researching.
We have made many improvements, however as they say, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ so many of the functions of our previous news area remain. These have been enhanced if and whenever possible. Users can still highlight featured articles, arrange articles into categories and search through an archive of previous articles.
If need a new website that is future-proof and being found is important to you then we’d love to hear from you.
