How to Build Your Social Media Following - #TuesdayThoughts

1. Post Regularly

Gaining followers on Social Media is a vital step in any Marketing Strategy. There is little point constantly posting on Social pages if there is no one there to see it. Building your following will take patience and is not the be all and end all of your social media marketing strategy, many companies do extremely successfully without thousands of followers. However, it is important to gain followers, current or prospective customers, to remain at the forefront of their mind.

2. Entertain Them

When communicating with your followers they should see the human behind the brand. Constantly posting statistics and articles will gain you some number of followers but having fun and expressing yourself through your social media is likely to gain you even more of a following. Posting humorous content will not only give your followers some entertainment but show that you are not just using your social media platforms to push your product or service onto customers. At the end of the day, social media is a form of entertainment and don’t be afraid to treat it as such whilst promoting your company.

Using visuals will not only make your page look a lot more attractive but causes people to stay on the page longer, therefore increasing chances of them following. This can include graphics, photographs or videos. Facebook found that live videos have 6x the engagement than more text-based content. This doesn’t have to cost you a fortune though. It can be done very basically through PowerPoint, or something similar, or even through stock photos or videos. Having an image or video that clearly portrays what your content is about will increase chances of people staying on your page for longer and following you.

3. Check The Stats

There are many tools you can use to track your followers and your analytics. Companies rarely gain followers from posting randomly on a multitude of social media platforms without tracking their analytics. By tracking your analytics, you can see when your posts are gaining the most engagement. The timing of your posts, as well as hashtags and key words, can highly influence the number of followers you can gain across all platforms.

It is important that you provide content to your followers to keep them interested and your company in the forefront of their mind, but it is just as important that you don’t spam them with unnecessary content. Do not post just for the sake of it, this will discredit content that is actually helpful and important to your brand. It is better to post little with helpful, endearing content than to post 2-3 times a day with spammy, unnecessary content. Your followers will get irritated and could end up unfollowing or not paying attention when you actually have something important to say.

4. Keep At It

The most obvious, but sometime overlooked, tip is to remain active. If your pages are left inactive than they will remain stagnant and will not benefit your business in any way. Many businesses who have gained a large following on social media have credited their success to consistent posting. This also doesn’t have to take loads of time out of your week. Scheduling posts on a Monday to be dished out during the week is the most reliable way to ensure that you remain on your game and don’t get too overwhelmed.
