‘Colette the Artist’ Wallows in Newfound Movie Success

Todos Santos is a traditional little town on the Pacific coast of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. The Sierra de la Laguna mountain range provides a spectacular, cinematic backdrop. It has long been popular with artists, writers, and musicians. Indeed, Todos Santos boasts the ‘original’ Hotel California. You know, the one that, legend has it, inspired the Eagles to write the classic song about the place where “you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave". A piece of work that has long since been hailed as an artistic triumph. Well, now there’s a new artist in town and she is the subject of a short movie that is already causing a splash at film festivals in 2020. She is also… a pig! An artistic and pig-anthropic pig to be exact.

Colette the pig at The Hotelito

At a time when we could all use some light relief, it appears in the form of a not-so-light pig called Colette from Mexico. Colette is lucky enough to live with the other animals at The Hotelito in Todos Santos. She is a pig with a difference though. It seems that she has a highly creative and productive mind. Such is her originality, she has taken it upon herself to produce and narrate a short documentary to let the world know all about her burgeoning talents and her benevolent outlook on life in general.

As you would imagine, Colette is big news right now. Even Newsweek was keen to get a piece of her and to highlight her artistic chops. You can watch her movie here. We think it is brilliantly bonkers!

Colette’s home is a hotel that sits quietly in the hills overlooking Todos Santos, called The Hotelito. Where the Hotel California sits centrally and traps the more commercially minded tourists, the Hotelito caters to the cultured, hedonistic traveler. Having stayed there myself, I can tell you that it is indeed a truly unique, five-star experience. It is owned and run by our long-term client, Jenny Armit. Jenny emigrated from the UK to Mexico 17 years ago and has become an important contributor to the local community.

Nestled in alongside The Hotelito is the house and grounds where Jenny has, over the years, created a sanctuary for a group of animals, including Colette, that she has rescued and provides care for. Jenny is has had a fascinating life and was a highly successful and much sought-after interior designer to trade. Now, the multi-award-winning Hotelito is a reflection of her creative personality in that every room and cabin is a work of art in itself. When we began building our website platform almost 10 years ago, Jenny was one of our first clients. And we continue to support, develop and maintain her busy website today.

Take a look at the Hotelito and find out more about Colette and the other animals that live there.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Todos Santos, you absolutely should. You never know, you might just meet a big movie star.
